Percussion Day

Today is the turn of percussion to be added to the songs.

I hear footsteps every so often, heading out to various store places and returning with some rattly or shaky :)  Little touches to add colour and rhythm to the guitar tracks that are already in place.

The studio started off this morning with a small drum kit and a set of congas, but I bet if I go in now there'll be a lot more things lying around.

I'm staying out of the way and enjoying an unexpected day off at home - we were due to be off visiting but that got postponed much to our relief this morning.   It's a rare treat to have a Saturday or Sunday at home.   So I'm away catching up on bits of things and am studiously ignoring all the cleaning that could and should be done :)

I hope your weekend's going well.

  1. I'm always learning about so many kinds of percussion. One of my favorites from your part of the world is the Irish drum or I believe it's proper name is Bodhran. When my daughter and I saw the Celtic band, The Crossing, in Cambridge, Ohio, one of the members played such a moving solo to close.. We were in awe! I'm so glad you get some time to relax.. Best wishes for a peaceful, restful day.

    1. I love the bodhran Tamara - there's one on the chair in the last photo above ... It's really exciting when played well with tunes, but it's lovely played slowly as an accompaniment to songs too.
      Have a beautiful weekend :)

  2. Nice to have a peaceful day Fil. Not very up on percussion instruments. I have heard of the bodhran but don't know if I've heard it played. I used to be a fan of some of the great drummers like Buddy Rich.

    1. I saw him play once Jo. In the Albert Hall - he was amazing. And his band played behind Frank Sinatra ... It was a night to remember.

  3. Sounds like an exciting part of the process. :-)

And having a day off at home is always nice, especially if you're able to ignore all the housework.

  4. Hi Fil - how lovely to have some quiet time ... yet know the music continues on ... I know nothing about music, or instruments ... so learning more sometime will be fascinating. Good luck with the week and am glad you got some work done, that wasn't cleaning! Cheers Hilary

  5. Unexpected days off are the best - and definitely not to be mucked up with any cleaning tasks! Love the idea of various percussion instruments getting hunted down - sounds like lots of fun was had. Hope you have a wonderful week.
