We had a splendid day in Cork yesterday and met up with some friends that we hadn't seen in nearly 20 years. Can't wait to get back down there again. It's only 250 miles south from here, but I swear it always feels about 10 degrees warmer. It was Winter at the first gig but full summer by the time we got to the second one and of course the clothes weren't appropriate - the bain of my life!!
That was our first time playing in a Library and both places were lovely. We're home with our heads full of ideas that now have to be acted on for future dates.
We drove back after the second gig. Try as I may I've never learned how to conserve my energy on stage - it doesn't feel right if I don't give 110% but it leaves me totally wiped next day. That on top of the 4 hour drive plus a couple of breaks for dinner and petrol got us home around 10.30 and asleep by 11. Real rock'n'roll musicians us!!!!!
So it's going to be a very quiet day today - hairdresser, a wander around the food and craft market at the blues festival and an Indian take away for dinner. I'll take the camera cos the sun is shining, but my awake head is not on straight yet. Maybe we'll face the festival tomorrow and take in some music. The blues in the Bay festival happens this Bank Holiday Weekend every year and features lots of local bands as well as international stars, including Van Morrison this year and Mud Morganfield who is Muddy Waters son.
It seems to be a holiday weekend everywhere this year - what are you up to?
This is such an amazing post, I really am loving to know more about your days and gigs! I loved the fact that you give 110% on stage, this is excellent! And that the library was a good place to play - the combination of books and music sounds excellent to me, too! I can imagine that you were drained after the show and 4 hours driving back home is a lot, but nothing is as good as our own beds, so the quote says :) I think the festival will be great! I must confess that I can't wait to go back to Dublin, where I always planned my weekends with nice things. But studying now is also nice, though my weekends are not so wow for a while! :) Hope you have a very nice weekend!

The studying will be worth it Denise - there'll be plenty of weekends waiting for you at the end of it :)
DeleteHi Fil - I spent 6 weeks in the Cork area 37 years ago!! It's a stunning part of the world .. and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your time down there ... sounds like you are making friends and contacts for future tours ...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend, winding down somewhat ... and generally gearing up again for your festival and craft visits ... happy times ... having had a busy week - I'm doing some catching up ... cheers Hilary
How lovely to have spent some time down there Hilary - We used to gig for a couple of weeks each summer in West Cork - and camp on nights off. It's lovely to reconnect with it. It's a beautiful part of the world - the atmosphere is always different.
Delete250milee is a looong way!!! Not surprised you need a rest and easy morning. Glad you had a blast. We are currently driving to a Eurovision party, I am decked in sequins and we have platters of antipasti x
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect way to dress up for Eurovision Kezzie :) I'd love to see a photo. It really was a very kitsch presentation this year wasn't it?
DeleteSounds like you need a good rest now. Enjoy the long weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any plans for tomorrow. We had a nice bluebell walk yesterday and the weather was good enough to actually do laundry for once but today is cold and wet. If tomorrow is like this then it'll be a day for bundling up indoors with good films and books; if it's like yesterday then we've got to weed the garden. ;-)
Ooh there's nothing to beat a day on the sofa with some good films - I hope you had a good weekend :)
DeleteYou must be exhausted! I used to work long hours in my previous corporate job but I think when you do something you love and give it your all you're far more tired. Have a brilliant day today, take loads of photos and, most importantly, have fun! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou are right Vix - you do tire yourself out much more thoroughly :)
