Focussing on the details |
So I'm rummaging around for a new name that at least tells people what I do - this version will probably change - I'm not entirely happy with it - and if any of you have any suggestions I'd love to hear it. And I'm going to try to stick to some sort of a timetable and still write about the things I love - music of course, positive news stories, and this beautiful part of the world I live in - but also have content that is more suitable to share more widely (through Social Media for example) and see if I can find out where other musicians hide in the blogosphere. There are many I know who do blog, but even being interested in them I get bored about being told every day to buy my latest CD.
I follow some art blogs and I love watching their mix of colour, giveaways and sales talk, although they are the other extreme and don't show so much about their lives. Then there are the crafters, writers, and fashionistas I follow and last but definitely not least, the friends I have made here in the years I've been online - I love visiting you all in your different corners of the world and hearing what you're up to and what you've got planned. And I equally like sharing that too. So that'll have to stay too.
So watch this space. Doubtless it'll turn out just as unfocussed as ever, but I'll enjoy coming and chatting :) We'll see. And I'd love to hear your suggestions for a name.
Do you stick to a plan with your blogging, or is it more random and when the feeling takes you? And have you stayed focussed on what you blog about or has that changed over the years? And if you have a business, do you blog separately about that? So many questions, so little time lol
Hi Fil!
ReplyDeleteI can truly resonate with you. Trying to make some sense with my blog has been an ongoing quest for me, but I finally figured out a way to include all I am interested in and want to write about. Don't you find it exhausting sometimes to have so many interests and want to do more than in a day fits? Turns out, we just have to accept we can't do all in one lifetime ;-)
Blogname, hm..let me think. Singing storyteller. No,that doesn't do it either. Fil's Music & Musings around the world. Hm. I hope other readers have better suggestions, hahaha.
Thanks for the suggestion Mimosa - I quite like that actually ... Yes it is frustrating to have more than one interest, but when one's your work it makes it even more confusing in the blogging world which totally mystifies me anyway lol
DeleteI've been blogging on and off for years, and the "off" time has mostly been because of lack of inspiration. I started out to write about life and connect with people, but as the blogging world has changed into something completely different, where blogs are mostly fashion magazines or ad pages, my interest in blogging has faded. However, lately I've started again to blog about photography and sharing photos. I used to blog about playing music but don't really do that anymore either.
ReplyDeleteI think that hobby blogs or personal blogs should be kept separate from business/for profit blogs. I hate to see good interesting blogs become ad pages. There are very few for-profit blogs that truly keep their "soul". I plan to start a business and will use a blog to promote it but that will be strictly apart from my other blogs. And if I ever get anywhere to earn money from photography I will still keep my everyday-photos blogs as they are.
Good luck with your blog!! I just found it and will keep the link.
Hi Susanne, lovely to meet you, thank you for coming by. I agree with you about the hobby/ personal v. business and separating them - I've enough problems managing one and juggling two will do my head in!! Thank you for the advice.
DeleteHi Fil - if you change the name of the blog - all goes with it ... so probably better to add to the title ...
ReplyDeleteA Song to Sing, a Story to Tell, a Colour to Paint, Threads to Weave, some Photos to Take ... as my Muse takes me ...
Or put tabs up ...
or just recategorise each post .. under various headings ...
Good luck though ... cheers Hilary
Cheers Hilary - actually I hadn't thought about tabs - have seen a lot of Wordpress blogs doing that .. must look into it. Thanks for the advice xx
DeleteMy blog has evolved. It started in the guise of a single picture taken on that day at 11am then a bit of a waffle, as I grew more confident, so did the stories and images. Then I closed that due to unwanted attention from an ex manager, re-started it under a new name and use it as a diary, recording walks, crafting, keeping in touch with friends and family. I do also now run a 'work' blog. Where I post a snippet of my art with a few words. This I then link with a Facebook page of my work. This is done to get my work out to the wider population. Early days but it does generate work and interest.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting way to use the different blogs Kate - I've a bit more thinking to do.
DeleteI love your new name, it is really nice. If you wanted something a bit snappier, could you not shorten it to Songs and stories??x
ReplyDeleteGood idea Kezzie - I might use that.
DeleteInteresting post. Blogging for me is now on the downside. I finally called it a day on the Blogger platform of blogging and now I write about my adventures in writing on Tumblr called, appropriately enough, I Are Writer!
ReplyDeleteI find your new blog title interesting. I think using tabs is a very cool idea as I use them now on my recently closed blog so that people can get easily explore my other dormant blogs.
I Are Writer!
I really must look into tabs GB - if I can figure out how to transfer the different posts. I'd noticed you weren't posting here so much any more. I suppose all these things will go through phases.
